YouTube Recently Updated Content Policy Around Gun Content, Including 3D Printed Guns (3 minute read) - Link

YouTube is introducing new restrictions on gun-related content:

  • Videos selling guns or showing 3D-printed gun assembly will be age-restricted (18+).

  • Instructions on removing gun safety features and videos of automatic weapons will also be age-restricted.

  • Artistic gun representations and public interest videos (news, military footage) are exempt.

3D-printed gun makers are unhappy about the changes. They argue their audience is mostly adults and that age-restricting their content hurts their channels due to how the algorithm surfaces their videos to people with or without accounts. They also find it illogical for news footage of war to be accessible to young viewers while their content is restricted.

YouTube says the policy update reflects the rapid advancements in 3D printing technology.

Sintavia Develops New 3D Printing Processes for Hypersonic Engines (4 minute read) - Link

The US Department of Defense tapped Sintavia to develop 3D printing methods for crucial components in hypersonic propulsion systems. This project focuses on validating 3D printing for hypersonic parts, establishing industry standards, and simplifying manufacturing by reducing the number of parts needed. Additionally, it aims to open doors for small businesses to participate in hypersonic production.

This contract aligns with the DoD's broader GAMMA-H initiative to discover new manufacturing techniques for hypersonic weapons. It follows a similar project awarded to Aerojet Rocketdyne for creating a 3D-printed hypersonic propulsion system prototype.
