Autodesk Unveils Project Bernini: AI Generates Functional 3D Shapes (4 minute read) - Link
Autodesk unveils Project Bernini, a research project using generative AI to create 3D shapes for design and manufacturing industries. This first experimental model can generate functional 3D shapes from various inputs, including images, text, and 3D data formats. Unlike other generative models, Bernini focuses on creating practical 3D objects that can be used in the real world. For instance, a water pitcher generated by Bernini would be hollow and hold water, unlike some AI-generated models that prioritize aesthetics over functionality.
Project Bernini also prioritizes user creativity by generating multiple variations of a design based on a single input. This aligns with industry trends, as 78% of business leaders believe AI will enhance design and make it more creative. While not yet available publicly, Project Bernini holds immense potential for various design fields, from architecture and product design to media and entertainment.

Breakthrough: 3D-Printed Glass Sensors on Optical Fibers (2 minute read) - Link
Researchers in Sweden achieved a breakthrough by 3D-printing tiny, ultra-resilient glass sensors directly onto the tips of optical fibers. This eliminates the need for high heat, which can damage these fibers. These sensors outperform traditional plastic sensors, especially when measuring harsh chemicals. They're incredibly small, with over 1,000 fitting on a single grain of sand!
This opens doors for miniaturized sensors in environmental monitoring and healthcare. The researchers even printed nanogratings, which manipulate light for potential advancements in quantum communication. This breakthrough paves the way for smaller, more powerful fiber optic devices with vast applications.
Printing in Space: A Game-Changer for Space Construction (3 minute read) - Link
A startup named Orbital Matter is set to launch a 3D printer into space on the Ariane 6 rocket. This "Replicator" mission aims to demonstrate 3D printing technology that could revolutionize space construction. Unlike existing methods limited to the International Space Station, Orbital Matter's printer works in the harsh environment of open space.
This innovation could lead to the creation of massive structures like solar power plants, communication antennas, and even larger space stations – all built directly in space. The benefits are numerous, from cheaper electricity and communication to advancements in space exploration and tourism.
This first mission will see Orbital Matter's CubeSat print a 50 cm beam, a crucial step towards their goal of becoming the first in-space construction company. This technology has the potential to significantly reduce the resources needed for space development, paving the way for a more accessible and sustainable future in space.

Stealth Xbox Controller Stand (Yellowtech on Printables) - Link
This model for a PS5 controller was recently making the rounds on the 3D printing sub-reddits. This great model is small, quick to print, and makes it appear as if your Xbox controller is standing up on its own on your desk. A perfect way to show off your love of gaming. The link above also has a link to a PS5 version if that is more your flavor.
A great model to print for the kiddos! This model glider only takes 30 minutes to print. Make sure to print in PLA with 100% infill. Then fold up the back tail section and elevators for better flight characteristics. This prints really thin which allows it to actually glide some distance rather than crashing from being too heavy. Give it a try!
