MakerWorld launches Make My Desk Organizer Tool - Link

In a Reddit post, MakerLab, the 3D print model sharing website from BambuLab, has launched a beta program for their new product, Make My Desk Organizer.

This program allows users to design their perfect desk organizer in just 3 steps:

  1. Draw 2D shapes to create compartments of various sizes and shapes.

  2. See your creation come to life with a 3D preview and adjust compartment heights.

  3. Download the 3D model and print it on your own 3D printer.

Space in the beta program is limited. To register and be one of the first to try Make My Desk Organizer, fill out a short questionnaire here. After designing your organizer, share your creation on MakerWorld to inspire others.

Future NASA Sensors to be Manufactured with Additive Technology (3 minute read) - Link

Researchers at FAMU-FSU College of Engineering successfully developed 3D-printed sensors for NASA. These sensors are designed to be more accurate and durable than traditional sensors used in aerospace applications.

The project is funded by a $300,000 NASA grant and utilizes 3D printing with laser baking to create strain gauges. Strain gauges measure deformation and are crucial for monitoring spacecraft during missions.

The research team is led by Professor Subramanian Ramakrishnan and includes both students and experienced engineers. They are continuing to develop the technology with the goal of creating next-generation sensors for NASA.

Aerojet Rocketdyne Selected by DOD to 3D Print a Hypersonic Propulsion System (2 minute read) - Link

Aerojet Rocketdyne, a defense giant, scored a $22 million contract to create a hypersonic propulsion system prototype using 3D printing. This aligns with the DoD's GAMMA-H program focused on 3D printing for hypersonic weapons.

3D printing promises a streamlined production process and lighter parts for hypersonic vehicles. Aerojet Rocketdyne has a history of success in 3D printing for aerospace, including a tested 3D-printed thrust chamber and hypersonic scramjet engine.

The DoD sees 3D printing as a way to strengthen domestic supply chains in defense, especially considering current hardware shortages. This project highlights the growing importance of 3D printing in hypersonic tech and the US military's efforts to bolster its defenses.

Parametric Cable Ducts (Leon_H on Printables) - Link

This one is quite neat. If you’ve ever tried to hide cables either along your walls, your desk, or TV, you know how much of a pain it can be to make it look good. That’s where this print comes in handy.

This is a fully parametric cable duct model that can be edited in Fusion360. With 16 parameters to edit, you will be able to always create the perfect cable duct for your needs. Head over to the link to check out how to set it up and start printing the perfect cable ducts today.

Multiple Species Wildlife Kit Cards (designs.by.Marcum on Maker World) - Link

This is a 3D printable model set featuring various endangered wildlife species. The creator (designs.by.Marcum) is passionate about wildlife conservation and will donate a portion of the proceeds to their local zoo.

The models are designed to be easy to print and assemble. Each animal snaps together with some variations for specific features like elephant ears or lion paws.

Currently available animals include African forest elephants, lions, camels, hippos, gorillas, polar bears, giraffes, and rhinos with more to come!
