Detecting Defects in Additive Manufacturing with Machine Learning (2 minute read) - Link

Researchers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign developed a new method using machine learning to detect defects in 3D-printed parts. Finding defects in 3D-printed components can be difficult due to their complex shapes and internal features.

This technology uses deep learning trained on computer-generated defects of various sizes, shapes, and locations. The trained model can then identify defects in real, physical parts, even those unseen by the model before.

This innovation addresses a major challenge in additive manufacturing by offering a highly accurate way to detect defects.

WAZER launches WAZER Pro, a Water Jet Cutting System - Link

WAZER, a New York-based tech company, launched the WAZER Pro, a powerful waterjet cutting system for in-house part creation. Costing $18,999, the WAZER Pro cuts materials like aluminum, glass, and steel up to 1 inch thick, two to four times faster than its predecessor. It boasts minimal maintenance, user-friendly operation, and standard water/electricity use.

WAZER Pro's key features include high cutting power, long continuous operation time (90 minutes), and an automatic abrasive collection system. It also has a high-pressure system with minimal maintenance requirements and easy-to-clean filters. An absolute-zero locating feature simplifies cutting on existing parts and creating reusable fixtures.

For cleanliness, the WAZER Pro has an integrated sprayer and a compact footprint. Despite its increased power, it operates quietly and uses standard electrical power for easy installation. The WAZER Pro is upward compatible with the WAZER Desktop, using the same software and consumables.
