Micronics Wants To Bring SLS Printing to the Home User - Link

A Wisconsin-based company, Micronics, is launching a Kickstarter campaign for a desktop SLS 3D printer, the Micron, priced under $3,000. This is significantly cheaper than most industrial SLS 3D printers on the market, which typically cost over $15,000. The Micron boasts a build volume of 160 x 160 x 205 mm and is compatible with materials like nylon for creating high-quality and durable parts.

It also features a custom slicer software, MicroSlicer, and includes safety features like filters and an enclosed powder handling system. The Kickstarter campaign started on June 13th. 3D Printing Technique to Create Flexible, Stretchable Micro Fluidic Devices (4 minute read) - Link

Researchers developed a new 3D printing technique that integrates electronics into microfluidic devices. This allows for creating flexible and stretchable devices with functionalities like wireless communication and light emission.

Traditional methods for making these devices are manual and require cleanroom facilities. 3D printing offers an alternative but integrating electronics during printing has been a challenge.

This new technique uses a special ink that allows for printing hollow structures and integrates electronic components during the printing process by using a gradually curing resin. This eliminates the need for manual assembly.

The researchers were able to create a skin-attachable RFID tag and a free-standing flexible wireless light-emitting device using this technique. This opens doors for automated production of stretchable electronics with various functionalities.

3D Printing Lets Puppy Walk Again (3 minute read) - Link

A recent case at Chestergates Veterinary Hospital in the UK highlights the potential of 3D printing in veterinary medicine. A six-month-old Cockapoo puppy named Arthur was unable to walk due to spinal cord compression. Vets performed a complex surgery using custom-designed 3D-printed spinal screws and cement to stabilize Arthur's spine.

The four-hour surgery was successful, and Arthur regained mobility within three weeks. This case demonstrates how 3D printing technology can be used to create personalized medical implants for animals, potentially improving outcomes for complex procedures.

🤣 3D Printing Meme of The Week

Courtesy of Michaelodio on Reddit, I think we’ve all been here before. Maybe less so with the some of the printers that have came out over the last year or two but anyone that has owned an Ender or early version kit 3D printer will know the pain of this meme. Enjoy the weekend!
